Phi Liêng Waterfall is like a "white silk ribbon" amidst the forest.
Untouched amidst the ancient forest
Amidst the vast, verdant forest, Phi Liêng Waterfall continues to cascade down from the high cliffs, creating an echoing sound throughout the mountains. The white waterfall against the backdrop of the green forest trees has long been an attractive destination for those who enjoy exploring the beauty of nature. To reach Phi Liêng Waterfall, visitors must follow a forest trail through Dam Rông 1 commune, overcoming many steep and rocky sections. The sweat on this somewhat arduous journey adds to its unique charm. The deeper one goes into the forest, the more vibrant the natural scenery becomes, especially the sound of the waterfall and the cool, fresh air. Gradually, Phi Liêng Waterfall reveals itself in its majestic and free beauty. The water plunges from the high cliffs, creating a white foam and thin mist rising into the mountains. According to many locals, Phi Liêng Waterfall is also called the Seven-Tiered Waterfall because the water flows through many different tiers. The series of waterfalls stretches through the green forest, each tier possessing its own unique appearance, creating a vibrant natural landscape.
According to K'Vang, a tour guide in Lam Dong, Phi Lieng Waterfall is still considered by many nature lovers to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Central Highlands. Especially at the fourth tier, water cascades down from a height of nearly 100 meters, straight down the cliff amidst the pristine mountain forest. "The majestic and unspoiled beauty of the waterfall impresses many tourists. The path to the waterfall is relatively difficult, consisting only of narrow trails with many steep sections, but that makes the exploration even more exciting," K'Vang added.
K'Vang, who has guided tourists to Phi Lieng Waterfall many times, said that most visitors are nature lovers who enjoy experiences and exploration. They not only want to admire the scenery but also want to feel the rhythm of life of the local people and immerse themselves in the pristine forest and mountain environment. Anh Thu, a local resident, said that Phi Lieng Waterfall is also a favorite destination for her family. Although the journey to the waterfall is quite strenuous, requiring good health and a willingness to climb heights, the banks are covered in lush green grass, creating a peaceful scene amidst the vast forest. “I’ve been to the waterfall many times, but what I like most are the overnight camping trips, listening to the sound of the waterfall cascading through the mountains. Especially at sunrise, when the sunlight begins to filter through the trees, the white water of the waterfall reflects the sparkling light, creating a scene as beautiful as a painting,” Anh Thu shared.
Many potentials for tourism development.
Besides its pristine beauty, Phi Liêng Waterfall is also considered a destination with great potential for developing ecotourism and adventure tourism. Mr. Hoàng Trần Phú Hưng, Deputy Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Đam Rông 1 commune, said that the waterfall is located in the border area between Tà Đùng and Đam Rông 1 communes. Around the area leading to the waterfall, ethnic minority people live and engage in agricultural production.
According to Mr. Hung, the waterfall complex consists of seven tiers of varying sizes, stretching through a natural forest. At the foot of the waterfall is a wide rocky area, ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Previously, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism had granted a license for adventure tourism development in the Phi Lieng waterfall area to a business. However, currently, due to inadequate infrastructure, the local authorities have announced restrictions on locals and tourists from going down to the waterfall on their own, especially during rainy and stormy seasons, to ensure safety.
In recent years, local authorities have been gradually attracting investment in tourism development projects in the area after receiving provincial approval. According to Mr. Hung, if projects are implemented systematically, exploiting the tourism potential of Phi Lieng Waterfall will not only contribute to promoting the natural beauty of the locality but also create more jobs for people, gradually improve infrastructure, and boost economic development.
Therefore, with proper guidance, tourism development can be linked to the cultural values and lives of ethnic communities, thereby creating tourism products with a unique identity for the Dam Rong 1 region.
